Corian Countertops

The acceptance of DuPont Corian countertops has literally exploded in the past dozen years. Many customers are replacing kitchen countertops which originally were made of laminates, like Formica, that have pitted, scratched or broken. (Note: Corian countertop is repairable under most circumstances.) Persons who have enjoyed the look and utility of a Corian countertop feel lost without it if they change houses. A large part of Corian business nationally is repeat customers.

Routine Care of Your Corian® Countertop

There are three types of Corian® Counter top Finishes: matte/Satin,semi-gloss and high-gloss*. Most counter tops are finished with matte/satin finish. All Corian® Sinks have a matte/satin Finish. Soapy water, ammonia based cleaners (not window cleaners as they can leave a waxy build up that may dull the surface) or commercially available solid surface cleaners will remove most dirt and residue from all types of finishes. Stubborn residue will require a little stronger cleaner.

Experience has shown that a film builds up on the surface if water is left to dry on the counter top. This film will dull the look of the counter top making the finish appear blotchy and uneven. To prevent build up of the film, it is very important to wipe the counter top completely dry after spills and cleaning. Some colors of Corian® may require more frequent cleaning to maintain a uniform finish. Darker colors tend to require more attention than lighter colors. Over time, even with proper care, your counter top will acquire a patina, changing the appearance of the finish.

Corian Frequently Asked Questions

What is Corian®?
Corian® is the brand name for a solid surfacing material created by DuPont that has earned trust and respect as a proven material that brings design versatility, long-term performance and value to any environment. More than just counter tops, Corian® lends itself to imaginative uses, innovative interpretations, and enduring applications. It can be cut, routed, drilled, sculpted, bent, or worked like a fine wood. The ever-evolving color palette now extends to more than 100 colors. If you can envision it, chances are you can create it with Corian®.
Is Corian® stain-resistant?
Corian® is stain-resistant. Because Corian® is nonporous, stains can’t penetrate the surface, so it’s easy to clean and maintain. Unlike natural stone, Corian® never requires sealing.
Is Corian® heat-resistant?
We do not recommend placing a hot pot directly on Corian®. Although Corian® remains stable and undamaged in temperatures up to 212ºF (100ºC), high heat or flame will damage your surface. In most cases, this damage can be repaired. To protect your Corian® from heat damage, always use a hot pad or a trivet with rubber feet when using hot pots, or heat-generating appliances like electric skillets or electric cooking pots.
How do I clean my Corian®?
Corian® is easy to clean. This video will walk you through some easy tips for keeping your counter top looking as good as the day it was installed. Soapy water or an ammonia-based cleaner is all that is necessary for day-to-day care of your Corian®. Minor scratches, burns or discoloration are also easy to repair. Major damage should be repaired by a Certified Fabricator/Installer of DuPont Corian®. Contact Bill Shea’s Replacement Countertops for assistance.
